Our Arboretum is situated off Rudder Street, East Kempsey at the end of Wharf Street with the agreement of Kempsey Shire Council. This project would not have been established without Council support.
We are planting native rainforest species from around Australia (see photo). Most plants are relatively small but are establishing very quickly under the watchful eye of Fred Grundry. Wood chip is supplied by local contractors for the plantings to help with weed control.
Environmental Walks/Bird Watching Area
Abutting our arboretum to the west and 'surrounded' by the Macleay River is our East Kempsey Island project. The area has established walking tracks and is great for bird watching. It is a must see area for any one interested in the environment and native fauna and is accessible from Wharf Street (no swimming trunks needed). Take care in the area as it has typical Australian fauna.
This area is crown land and we operate under licence from the NSW Department of Industry - Lands and Water.
We have a monthly working bee on a Saturday morning that is mainly focused on weeding. The group of volunteers below are taking a well earned rest after completing a working bee but they have much to do given the weeds in the background.
